I would like to think I’m a positive person. I tend to look at situations with an optimistic view. I rather look at the glass as half full than half empty.

But, that’s on most days.

There are those times when something really minor may have gone wrong and the rest of the day just seems to follow in a downward spiral. Those days I wake up on the wrong side of the bed and can’t help but get annoyed by everything and everyone that interacts with me. Now trying to maintain my optimism, it really does bother me that a day which consists of 24 hours can be ruined within minutes. I want to figure out a way to change that. Which is why the #100happydays challenge caught my attention.

How does it work?

It’s pretty simple. You submit a picture of what made you happy every day for 100 days consecutively.

Three ways to submit your pictures

  1. Share your pictures via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the public hashtag #100happydays
  2. Come up with your own hashtag to share your pictures to limit publicity.
  3. Send your pictures to myhappydays (at) 100happydays.com to avoid publicity.

What do you get out of completing this challenge?

Aside from a little 100 page book with your 100 happy days, there are several reasons why you might want to consider signing up! You will:

  1. Start noticing what makes you happy every day;
  2. Be in a better mood every day;
  3. Start receiving more compliments from other people;
  4. Realize how lucky you are to have the life you have;
  5. Become more optimistic;
  6. Fall in love during the challenge.

I think what intrigued me the most (as if all the above reasons didn’t do it) was the following statistic provided by the foundation:

71% of people tried to complete this challenge, but failed quoting lack of time as the main reason.

I couldn’t wrap my head around the idea that almost three quarters of the people did not complete the challenge because of lack of time. How hard could it be to find one thing that makes you happy every day? Has our lives really gotten that busy, that we don’t have time for happiness? I refuse to accept this, and so, as of May 22, 2014 I officially started the #100happydays challenge. Do you have what it takes to be happy for 100 days?
